Smartisant Output Board OP1 Application Notes

The Smartisant Output Board OP1 is a single channel, high-power output board to control a wide range of devices at 12V to 24V dc. The board uses an IRLB8721 N-channel MOSFET with an opto-coupler to protect the control processor and enable both binary and PWM control of the load.

The input to the board can be connected directly to an Arduino pin (3.3V to 5.0V) and an on-board 220Ω resistor limits the current drawn from the ouput pin. The opto-coupler also has the advantage of keeping the control logic simple, so setting the output pin HIGH turns the output on and setting it LOW turns it off.

The input side of the board has space for 2-way screw terminals but, you can solder wires directly to the board and put a NOT DEFINED on the other end.

Note:  This board uses 'low side' switching, so the +ve side of the load is connected to the supply and the -ve side is pulled to ground, to complete the circuit. A 'high side' equivalent will be available very soon.
