Samsung 4K SUHD TV

Our contextual smart home monitors our various home networks and can "see" devices like smart TVs being switched on and off, by monitoring their presence on our local network. This means that our TVs act as occupancy sensors in some of our rooms and zones in our home, as can their remote controls.

This can be useful context, to ensure someone is not left in the dark when watching television late at night. Combined with other sources of occupancy (such as Passive Infra-Red (PIR) sensors, door contact sensors and remote controls), it can provide a very accurate and timely view of occupancy. This results in a great user experience.

Note:  You have to be a little bit careful when monitoring smart TVs like this. They will occasionally switch themselves on (without turning on the screen) without user interaction, to look for software updates. Fortunately these events tend to be quite short in duration, so we can implement a simple algorithm to ignore them.
